Introduction:

       Mostly, asafoetida (hing) is used in vegetables and pulses, so it is also known as ‘Bagharani’. It is greasy juice of pherula phoitis named plant. Its plant is 60-90 centimeters high. Mostly, its plant is found in the hill areas of Iran, Afghanistan Turkistan, Bluchistan, Kabul and khurasan. If someone scratches the leaves and bark of asafoetida (hing) lightly, a type of milk comes out from it, which turns into gum after drying on the tree. It is called asafoetida . The asafoetida, which is used by physicians, is called Heera asafoetida (hing). It is the best asafoetida. 

       Mostly, it is found in our country. It cures many types of diseases. Physicians say that asafoetida (hing) should be toasted before use. There are four kinds of it that are found in markets as- Kandhri, Europiyo vanijya, bharat varshiya and vapida asafoetida.

Hing (Asafoetida) Quality:

2. Rib pain: Mix asafoetida (hing) with lukewarm water and rub it on the ribs, it provides relief from rib pain.

3. Bile (Pitti): Mix asafoetida (hing) with ghee and rub it on the affected part, it provides relief in bile.

4. Poison: Mix asafoetida (hing) with water and give it to the patient, it brings vomiting out and alleviates poisoning.

5. Teeth diseases: Pressing asafoetida (hing) under the affected teeth provides relief from toothache.

7. Toothache:

25. Bescillary dysentery:

• Grind 5 grams asafoetida, 10 grams camphor, 10 grams catechu and 3 grams soft leaves of neem with basil juice. Prepare tablets (equal of gram) from above mixture. After that, take these tablets with rosewater 2-3 times in a day, it provides relief in cholera. Taking these tablets with bark of black berry tree 2-3 times in a day is useful to get relief in bacillary dysentery.
• Mix asafoetida (hing) and opium with 240-960 milligrams powder of black pepper and take twice a day; it provides relief in amoebic dysentery.
• Mix 10 grams black peppers, 10 grams asafoetida, 10 grams camphor and 3 grams opium with ginger juice. Pestle this mixture for 6 hours and prepare small tablets from it. Diarrhoea and cholera are cured by taking 1-2 tablets in a day.

26. Impotency:

• Make a paste by mixing half part asafoetida (hing) with 1 part butter of cow milk in bronze plate (kanse ki thali). After that, apply this paste on the penis and except front part of the penis, it cures impotency.

27. Malaria fever: Mix 2 grams asafoetida (hing) and 2 grams jaggery together. After that, give this mixture to the patient twice a day cures fever caused by malaria.

35. Sterility: If someone has been suffering from uterus gas, grind some black asafoetida (hing) with black sesamem oil and immerse cotton piece in it. Putting this cotton piece in the vagina for three days is useful to end sterility. Fresh medicine should be used regularly.

36. Constipation:

• Taking 6 grams powder of asafoetida (hing) with water is useful to cure all the diseases caused by constipation.
• Toast 240-960 milligrams asafoetida (hing) with ghee and mix caraway powder, black salt and water in it and take twice day regularly, it eliminates constipation and gas.
• Take toasted asafoetida (hing) with cooked vegetable; it eliminates stomach gas and constipation.

37. Stomach gas:

• Make the powder by grinding asafoetida, black salt and caraway together. Taking this powder provides relief.
• Mix asafoetida (hing) with lukewarm water and apply it on the abdomen as well as take 1 gram toasted asafoetida (hing) with any eatable thing, it provides relief.
• Boil 2 grams asafoetida (hing) with 500 ml water until it remains 1/4 part. After that, take this light hot decoction, it provides relief. 39. Loose motions:

• Taking toasted asafoetida (hing) with rice decoction provides relief in vomiting, stomach inflammation, fever and loose motions.
• Make the powder by grinding equal quantity of toasted asafoetida, black and white cumin seed, small cardamom and cinnamon together. After that, take 4 grams this powder with rock salt 3-4 times in a day, it provides relief in diarrhoea.

40. To prevent abortion: If a woman’s embryo destroys again and again, asafoetida (hing) should be used because it is very useful to prevent abortion. Prepare 60 tablets of 6 grams asafoetida (hing) and take one tablet at the starting of pregnancy twice a day. 1 tablet should be increased day by day till 10 days and decreases its quantity after delivery till one tablet. Using this process is useful to end the fear of abortion.

41. Ear diseases:

• Boil asafoetida, datura juice and radish seed with mustard oil. After that, drip this oil in the ears, it ends pain and deafness of ears.
• Boil 25 ml radish juice, 10 grams ground onosma echioides and 5 grams ground asafoetida (hing) with 50 ml mustard oil. Filter it after cooling. Heat 2 drops of this preparation there after drip it in the ears; it cures all the diseases of the ears.
• Heat asafoetida (hing) with mustard oil and filter it. After that, drip this light hot oil in the ears, it provides relief from ears pain caused by phlegm.
• Grind original asafoetida (hing) with breast milk and drip it in the ears, it cures deafness.

42. Deafness:

• Grind original asafoetida (hing) with breast milk and drip it in the ears of children, it provides relief in deafness.
• Grind heera asafoetida (hing) with cow milk and drip it in the ears, it ends deepness.
• Make the fine powder by grinding equal quantity of costus root, asafoetida, aniseed, flag root, dry ginger and rock salt together then mix goat urine in it. Boil it with oil until it remains only oil thereafter filter it. Dripping 3-4 drops this oil in the ears ends deafness.

43. Dysmenorrhoea: Take about half gram toasted asafoetida (hing) with water in the morning (in the starting first day of menstrual excretion) for three days regularly, it provides relief from pain caused by menstrual execration.

44. Problems of menstrual execration:

• If one feels pain during menstrual execration, mix 240 milligrams asafoetida (hing) with water and take it for some days regularly, it provides relief from pain.
• Taking asafoetida (hing) makes menstrual execration normal.

45. Indigestion:

• Mix some asafoetida (hing) with water and rub it on the abdomen, it provides relief in belching, indigestion and eliminates gas.
• Take 720 milligrams toasted asafoetida (hing) and 6 grams black salt with first morsel of meals, it provides relief.

51. Yawn: Toast asafoetida (hing) with ghee in iron pot. Make the powder by grinding this asafoetida (hing) with equal quantity of myrabalan chebulie, dry ginger, rock salt and black peppers. After that, take 1-3 grams this powder with lukewarm water regularly, it provides relief in yawn.

52. Stomach worms:

• Take asafoetida (hing) with caraway and marrow of aloe-vera, it kills intestines worms.
• Mix asafoetida (hing) with water and immerse cotton piece in it. After that, apply this cotton piece on the child’s anus, it kills stomach worms.

54. Nose diseases: Mix equal quantity of asafoetida (hing) and camphor with some honey and prepare tablets (equal of 240 milligrams) from it. After that, lick one tablet with ginger juice after each 4-6 hours, it cures catarrh.

55. Thorns under the skin: Mix asafoetida (hing) with water and apply it on the affected part, it brings thorn out from the skin.

56. Couri pain (Middle below part of the chest): Fill 120 milligrams toasted asafoetida (hing) in currants (without seed) and take it with water twice a day, it provides relief from couri pain (chest middle below part) and also prevents hiccup.

57. Spleen enlargement:

• Mix equal quantity of asafoetida, aluva, white barilla and sal ammonic with aloe barbadensis mill. Prepare tablets (equal of plum) from above mixture. After that, take one tablet regularly, it reduces spleen enlargement.
• Mix equal quantity of asafoetida, dry ginger, rock salt and toasted borax with juice of horse radish tree. Prepare tablets (equal of plum) from above mixture. After that, take one tablet twice a day regularly, it reduces spleen enlargement.

58. All types’ pain: Make the fine powder by grinding asafoetida, trikuta, coriander, caraway, lead-wort and myrabalan chebulie together then mix impure carbonate of potash and rock salt in it. Colic pain: Make the powder by grinding equal quantity of asafoetida, long pepper root, coriander, cumin seed, flag root, black pepper, lead-wort, sterospermum suaveolens, pier chaba, long zedoary, rock salt, black salt, small peppers, dry ginger, impure carbonate of potash, impure carbonate of soda, myrabalan chebulie, pomegranate seed, souer yellow dock, orrisa root, hauberk and black cumin seeds together then filter it. Grind this powder with juice of citron (beejora nimbu) and dry it in shadow. Fill it in the bottle after drying. • Make the powder by grinding asafoetida, caraway and black salt together. Taking this powder with lukewarm water is useful.
• Taking 120 milligrams toasted asafoetida (hing) with lukewarm water thrice a day provides relief
• Mix 2-3 grams asafoetida (hing) with water and apply it on the abdomen, it eliminates gas and provides relief in stomachache.
• Mix about 20 milligrams asafoetida (hing) and black salt with decoction of dashmool. Taking this preparation after meals ends stomachache.

61. Geuniaworms: Mix asafoetida (hing) (equal quantity of gram) and 30 grams flour of kidney bean with water. Heat this mixture and prepare paste from it. Make bandage from this paste and tie it on the affected part, it brings out worm like yarn. With it mix 5 grams asafoetida (hing) with one glass of cold water and drink it twice a day for 4 days regularly, it cures guniaworms. Consequently, this disease will not occur any time.

62. Heart pulsation: Grind one gram asafoetida, one gram camphor and two green chilies together. Prepare tablets (equal of gram) from above mixture. After that, take two tablets with cool water thrice a day, it normalizes heart pulsation.

63. Cholera:

• Make the fine powder by grinding dry ginger, black pepper, camphor, long pepper and rock salt 120 milligrams each together. Prepare small tablets from above mixture. After that, take two tablets 3-4 times in a day, it cures cholera.
• Make the powder by grinding 3 grams toasted asafoetida, 2 grams black cumin seeds, 2 grams white cumin seeds, 2 grams red chilly, 2 grams dry ginger, 2 grams camphor and 1 gram pure opium together. Mix this powder with water and prepare tablets (equal of kidney bean) from it. Dry these tablets and fill it in the bottle. After that, take 1 tablet with fresh water after each one hour, it provides relief in cholera. These tablets can be taken after each 30 minutes.
• Grind equal quantity of asafoetida, camphor and mango stone (Guthali) with mint juice. Prepare tablets (equal of gram) from above mixture. Taking these tablets provides relief in cholera.
• Grind equal quantity of asafoetida, black peppers and bark of madar root with mint juice. Prepare tablets (equal of gram) from above mixture. After that, take these tablets after each half hour, it cures cholera.

64. Rheumatism: Grind original asafoetida (hing) with ghee and rub it on the affected part, it cures rheumatism.

65. Heart problems:

• Make the powder by grinding equal quantity of black cumin seed, caraway, rock salt and toasted asafoetida (hing) together. After that, take 250-300 grams this powder with fresh water, it provides relief in weakness, nervousness and inflammation of the heart.
• Make the powder by grinding equal quantity of asafoetida, flag root, dry ginger, costus root, myrabalan chebulie, lead-wort, impure carbonate potash, black salt and orrisa root together. After that, take half spoon this powder with honey or pure ghee. It is useful to end heart problems.
• Fill 120 grams ground asafoetida (hing) in currants (without seeds) and prepare tablets from it. Taking these tablets with lukewarm water is useful to ends heart problems.

66. Hysteria:

• Smelling asafoetida (hing) to the patient is cures hysteria.
• Mix about 120 milligrams pure asafoetida (hing) and 480 milligrams jaggery together. Prepare tablets (equal of 120 milligrams) from above mixture. After that, take these tablets with water twice a day, it provides relief in hysteria.
• Make the powder by grinding 10 grams asafoetida, 30 grams flag root, 5 grams saffron, 40 grams spikenard and 50 grams caraway together. After that, take 3 grams this powder with lukewarm water twice a day. It is useful to cure hysteria.
• Taking half-one gram asafoetida (hing) regularly cures hysteria. This asafoetida (hing) should be taken according to age and diseases.

67. Geuniaworms:

• Grind some asafoetida (hing) with cool water and give it to the patient, it provides relief in geuniaworms.
• If the patient who suffers from geuniaworms, make tablets of 300-720 milligrams asafoetida. After that, give these tablets with water to him. It curs wound caused by geuniaworms.
• Mix some asafoetida (hing) with cow dung and apply on the wound of geuniaworms, it provides relief.

68. Low blood pressure:

• Fry toasted asafoetida (hing) and cumin seeds with 250 ml whey and take; it provides relief in low blood pressure.
• The patient of low blood pressure should take pure asafoetida (hing) with meal, it makes blood pressure normal.
• Fry asafoetida (hing) with ghee in iron pot until it makes red. After that, take 120-240 milligrams this asafoetida (hing) twice a day, it provides relief in low blood pressure.

• If the child weeps or cries, it should be considered that child has been suffering from stomachache. In this condition, make a pad of cotton and heat it. Foment the stomach with this pad and rub hot gulrogan on the stomach; it provides relief from stomachache. 74. Hoarseness:

• Hoarseness is cured by taking 120 milligrams asafoetida (hing) with lukewarm water.
• Mix asafoetida (hing) with lukewarm water and gargle with this water, it cures hoarseness.
• Mix half gram asafoetida (hing) with lukewarm water and gargle with it twice a day; it cures hoarseness caused by catarrh and climate.
• Taking some asafoetida (hing) with lukewarm water is useful to cure hoarseness.

• Precaution: It can harmful for the brain and hot natured person.
• Removing side-effects: Tragacanth’ gum and wild or sweet violet remove the side-effects of asafoetida.
